Union Minister Demands Modi's Removal

Patna: Dec. 30, 2007

Union Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, in a letter written to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accused Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi of acting out of political vendetta in the case of his brother who has been charged with employing child labor in his field saying Modi was degrading the dignity of the democratic principles and must be removed from the government without further delay.

The Central Rural Development Minister said it was Modi who dismissed a Hajipur administration report that had exonerated his brother Raghuraj Singh in the so-called child labor case.

"Modi, acting out of malice and ill-will against me, ordered a new investigation that has found my brother guilty of using two young children in place of the beasts of burden. People of Bihar must know why a second probe was ordered and guilty party must be brought to justice," the minister said in his letter to the Chief Minister.

Despite an investigation by the office of Labor Commissioner, Raghuvansh Singh maintains his brother was framed in the child labor case.

"If the government fails to sack Modi, it would only mean that the Nitish government is a part of the conspiracy hatched against my brother," Singh said.
