PM Wishes Bihar to be Like Mauritius

Patna: January 7, 2007

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, while inaugurating the Non-Resident Indians (NRI) meet in New Delhi on Sunday, expressed his desire to see Bihar develop on the line of Mauritius saying he had, during his trip to the Indian Ocean island, asked the Mauritian of Indian origin to come to Bihar and encourage Biharis to invest in the state's infrastructural development.

The Prime Minister also said he was hoping to see the lost glory of ancient Nalanda revived by proper planning and investment and said he agreed with the foreign minister of Singapore who recently expressed his interest in making Nalanda a hub for higher learning.

"Nalanda can be developed as an international center for higher education in religion, art, culture, history, language, and other areas that would be capable of attracting students and researchers from around the globe," Singh said.

Besides Singapore, many other countries including China and South Korea have also expressed their interests in developing Nalanda as a cultural learning center, the Prime Minister said.
