Shekhawat's Candidacy an Effort to Create Confusion: Lalu
Chhapra: July 2, 2007
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, while inaugurating railway projects in Chhapra on Monday, lashed out at the NDA for making baseless accusation against the UPA presidential candidate Pratibha Patil saying it had no moral right to question a 'lady of high moral integrity' when many of its own members had been charged of some serious crimes.
"Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L. K. Advani himself was an accused in the infamous Babri Masjid. Where was the moral outrage when he was made the Deputy Prime Minister of India?" asked Yadav.
The Railway Minister also described the entry of Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat into the presidential race as a move 'to create confusion among the voters'.
Debunking the prospect of cross-voting, Yadav said that was not going to happen as all UPA leaders were unquestionably behind Patil despite news to the contrary in some media and Patil was poised to win by at least 1.5 lakh votes.
"Shekhawat has quit the party and become an Independent to grab the President's post but everyone knows he is still a BJP-backed candidate and an out and out Rashtriya Swayam Sevak (RSS) operative," Yadav said.
