Family of Five Commits Suicide in Samastipur

Samastipur: July 5, 2007

In an extremely tragic incident, five persons of a family, including three girls within the age of 5 and 8, committed suicide after consuming deadly pesticides in Tabhka village in Samastipur district Thursday morning, Superintendent of Police (SP) S. L. Das said.

Family dispute is being seen as the cause of the deadly measures taken by the family that included Avinash Kumar Jha, wife Kiran Devi, and their three daughters Sudha, Kumkum, and Neelu, aged between 5 and 8.

As reported, the parents took their three daughters to a nearby field and after poisoning them with highly potent pesticide, consumed the poison themselves ending their lives as well.

Ironically, the parents spared the lives of their two sons, both less than 10 years old, officials said.

The bodies were taken to a Samastipur hospital where doctors were to perform autopsies on them.

The police is investigating the case.
