Vigilance Raid at Senior IAS Official's Homes

The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) of Bihar on Friday raided the houses of senior IAS officer and minor irrigation secretary S. S. Verma and recovered over Rs. 16 lakh in cash and 1500 USD while also seizing documents indicating properties and investment in many areas, Vigilance Commissioner B. K. Verma said.
Verma, a 1981-batch IAS officer, was away in Delhi when the raids took place at his residence in Rukunpura, his son-in-law's Nursing Home in Daldali and Mayur Clinic in Sheikhpura in Patna.
Simultaneous raids were also conducted at his ancestral house in Lucknow and Katihar, IG, SVU, A. K. Upadhyaya said.
Under heavy police protection, the raid at his Rukunpura residence began at the wee hours on Friday and continued till late evening.
Verma has been charged with accumulating assets worth over Rs. 68 lakh that is substantially disproportionate to the known sources of his income, Upadhyaya said.
