NHAI Approves Rs. 458 Crore for Highways in Bihar

Patna: July 9, 2007

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), on Monday, approved Rs. 458 crore for construction and maintenance of highways in Bihar under the third phase of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP).

The money would be used to construct 63.71 kilometer of four-lane highway between Patna and Muzaffarpur on NH 77, officials said.

The highway would be built on the Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) basis, authorities further said.

Another four-lane highway would be built between Patna and Bakhtiarpur though the government is yet to initiate the tender process.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had earlier met with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi urging him to take personal interest in highway development plans in Bihar.
