Pratibha Patil Coming to Patna on Tuesday

Patna: July 9, 2007

UPA presidential nominee Pratibha Patil, in an effort to drum up support for her candidacy, will be arriving in Patna on Tuesday where she will meet with the UPA legislators and senior Congress leaders just days before the scheduled July 19 polls that may very well put a woman in the President's seat for the first time in Indian history.

Congress spokesperson Kripanath Pathak said Mrs. Patil would meet with the Congress leaders and the left allies in Patna to seek their 'blessings' and support on Tuesday before flying to Ranchi and Bhubaneshwar on a similar campaign.

Senior Congress leaders including Digvijay Singh, Vishnu Prasad, and Pervez Hashmi have already arrived in Patna to arrange a huge welcome for Mrs. Patil.

Meanwhile, to further secure a victory for Mrs. Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would also be coming to Patna on July 17.

This would be Singh's first Bihar visit since the NDA government came into power in the state back in late 2005.

Chief Secretary A. K. Chowdhary, however, said the purpose of the Prime Minister's visit to Patna was to assess progress in various agricultural and industrial projects and the government was gearing up to accord him warm welcome in the state.
