Railway DIG Arrested; Released on Personal Bond
Patna: July 13, 2007
The Patna railway police, in cooperation with its Delhi counterparts on Friday, arrested the Railway Protection Force DIG Premjeet Singh Rawal in New Delhi on charges of sexually assaulting a the sister of a woman IAS officer on Delhi-Patna Sampoorna Kranti Express last Sunday.
The DIG, however, was released from the police custody after he posted a personal bond of Rs. 20,000.
He has been ordered to appear before a railway court in Patna on July 17.
A warrant of the arrest of Rawal was obtained last Wednesday after which a team of railway police left for Delhi where the tainted DIG was said to be present.
He was arrested from his office without incident, the police said.
Rawal has denied the charges saying the facts had been bent to appease the IAS officer because of her position.
Denying he was ever drunk, Rawal, at a preliminary probe in Patna last Wednesday, had said that he had accidentally stumbled on the woman while returning to his berth after using the train restroom. He also told the investigators that he had apologized to the lady and moved on only later to be accused for molesting the woman.
