BJP Activist Shot Dead

Patna: July 14, 2007

Armed criminals under Kadam Kuan police station in Patna on Saturday night gunned down a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) operative and a real estate dealer as he, along with his daughter, returned to his home on his motorcycle, the police said.

38-year old Sunil Mehta was returning to his home in Garhwa Toli when criminals hiding behind the darkness opened several rounds of fire on him. Several bullets pierced the head of Mehta who died on the spot instantly.

His body was taken into police custody and sent to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) for a post-mortem.

Somehow the victim's 15-year old daughter Dimple escaped the attack, the police said.

Town DSP Sushant Saroj, BJP legislator Arun Sinha, and other senior police officials remained at the hospital to gather information about the deadly attack.

Raids are being conducted to identify and apprehend the killers, City SP Anwar Hussain said.
