BJP President Denies Internal Rift
Patna: July 14, 2007
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Rajnath Singh, during a press conference in Patna on Saturday, tried to quell the rumors of cracks in the ruling NDA parties in Bihar saying the Nitish government was functioning normally and any news to the contrary was being spread by the opposition leaders to derive political advantage of the coalition government.
"The NDA government is poised to expand the Cabinet in a matter of days and any suggestion of a crack in the coalition is pure rubbish," Singh said.
"Not only the government is running smoothly, it is also meeting the expectations of the people of Bihar who are still reeling from the ill effects of the previous Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) regime," the BJP leader said.
Admitting there were some resentment among some BJP and Janata Dal (U) leaders, Singh said it was only natural to have some voice of dissents when there is a coalition government at either state or national level.
"These differences will be sorted out soon at party meets that will be held in next few weeks," Singh said.
Others to be present at the press meet included Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Radha Mohan Singh, Nand Kishore Yadav, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, and Dr. C. P. Thakur.
Earlier, the Chief Minister joined the BJP leaders at Dr. Thakur's house for an informal breakfast spurring a host of speculations among the NDA and opposition leaders.
The content of their meeting was not made public.
