RJD Now to Woo Upper Caste Voters
Patna: July 15, 2007
Railway Minister and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav, on Sunday at the party's training camp at Rajgir, said he would seek the support of upper caste voters to strengthen the party in the state in an attempt to regain power in Bihar.
"We will offer 10% reservation to the upper caste people with limited financial means," Yadav, who has long pitched the upper caste and lower caste populace for personal and political gains with slogans like 'Bhura Baal', said during the two-day meet of party leaders and workers.
"People have lost faith in the Nitish government and it is time to corner the NDA government on their highly dubious secular credentials," he said.
The Central Ministers from the RJD camp gave a detailed account of funding from their respective departments for the development of Bihar but blamed the Chief Minister for not being able to use the money as expected.
Yadav also said that the UPA will not try to break the Nitish government in Bihar but if some other party did, the RJD would give it its full support.
"This government is already broken. Now it is just a matter of time before this inept NDA government is relegated to the chapters in history books," the Railway Minister said.
