LJP Lampoons RJD's New-found Love for Upper Castes

Patna: July 16, 2007

Apparently only the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders are buying Lalu Prasad Yadav's latest political maneuvering to win back the support of upper caste people in Bihar as even Yadav's central ally like Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) fired back at him saying the whole scheme was a sham and a cheap political gimmick showing the desperation of the RJD Chief.

LJP spokesperson Sanjay Singh, at a press conference in Patna on Monday, called Yadav's announcement to win back upper caste support a political stunt that would have no impact on the political equation in Bihar.

"Everyone knows how Yadav marginalized the upper caste in Bihar by openly declaring war on them when he used rhetoric like 'Bhura Baal' and MY (Muslim-Yadav) to describe certain segments of the society. People of Bihar are not fools and Lalu would be wiped off for good in the future elections at both state and central levels," Singh said.

"There is hardly anyone who has not been conned or defrauded by Lalu Prasad Yadav. He fooled the backwards, the Muslims, and the upper castes for over 15 years. People of Bihar, however, are now much too wiser and this would lead to a complete wipe-off of the RJD in the next state and Lok Sabha elections," the LJP leader said.

"Now that people have strongly rejected the dynastic politics of Yadav, he is talking about winning back their support by dangling the carrot of reservation for the upper caste people," Singh said adding LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan was the only leader in the nation who always took each social segment into account by respecting their sentiments and needs.

"It was the LJP that made an upper caste person the leader of the party legislators and it was also the LJP that gave the sole seat in the state legislative council to an upper caste leader," he said.

"Lalu's attempt to court upper caste voters in the next Assembly elections is laughable and suggests extreme desperation on his part," the LJP leader said.
