RPF DIG Obtains Regular Bail in Alleged Sexual Assault Case

Patna: July 17, 2007

Railway Protection Force (RPF) DIG Premjeet Rawal, on Tuesday, obtained a regular bail in the highly-publicized sexual assault case involving an IAS officer and her sister on Delhi-Patna Sampoorna Kranti Express on July 8.

Rawal who appeared before a railway court in Patna on Monday, arrived at the court through back door. He was accompanied by his lawyer H. K. Monga.

After registering his statement and posting two Rs. 10,000 personal security, the court granted regular bail to the DIG who insists he is innocent and he would let the law take its course to prove his innocence.

Rawal is facing charges of sexual assault after Vandana Preyasi, an IAS officer of Bihar cadre, and her sister Sujata Preyasi, filed a case against him saying he tried to molest Sujata on the night of July 8 on Sampoorna Kranti Express.

The IG has denied all charges saying it was he who was victimized by the two sisters.

Indictment in the case is expected to come on Wednesday, Railway SP Ajitabh Kumar said.
