Nitish Hopes to Combat Naxalism with Development
Patna: July 18, 2007
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Wednesday, said the government would follow up on the court's directives to the letter following the availability of the Amir Das Commission report and would deal with the Naxal problem by implementing developmental programs in rural area that would force them to reconsider their violent way of life.
Speaking at the state Assembly after a marathon discussion on Naxal activities in Bihar, Kumar said that the government will leave no stone unturned in rural areas, particularly the extremists-hit regions, to bring development and prosperity as a 'weapon' to counter growing ultra activities in the state.
"Our fight with the Naxals is a political fight. Every organization has the right to propagate its agenda but if the agenda involves violence and crime, then the government has no choice but to take strongest measures against them," the Chief Minister said.
Taking a dig at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Kumar said that the RJD believed in politics based on caste and communal grounds. "They want to continue to sow the poisonous seed of caste-based politics. Their recent disparaging comments on the Bihar Chief Secretary further expose them of their hypocrisy and their hollow claims of being the party of social justice," he said.
"Today people get a cold chill when they hear the name of RJD. They talk about crime in Bihar under the NDA government but they are forgetting that it was under the RJD rule that criminals became emboldened and kidnapping became the most thriving industry in the state," the Chief Minister said.
Kumar also blasted the opposition leaders for making false accusation against his deputy and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushil Kumar Modi alleging he had ties with Ranvir Sena. "They will do anything to defame a person to score political points but people of Bihar have rejected such politics based on lies, hollow slogans of social justice, and misrepresentation of facts," he said.
