Two Sacks of Counterfeit Coins Recovered

Patna: July 21, 2007

Railway Protection Force (RPF) police in Patna on Saturday arrested two youths from Gulzarbagh railway station and recovered two sacks full of counterfeit 50 paise coins weighing more than 40 kilogram and a street value of roughly Rs. 20,000, officials said.

As reported, during a routine patrolling, the police noticed 4-5 young men sitting on Platform Number 2 of Gulzarbagh station with two sacks. They appeared to be having some sort of argument.

When the police tried to intervene, the youths started to run. However, one person who was identified as Ajit Kumar of Kulharia, was caught with two sacks. Upon opening of the sack, the police recovered shining, like straight from the mint, coins in 50 paise denomination.

Ajit Kumar told the police he was part of a gang of criminals who were engaged in producing counterfeit coins and he was simply a deliverer.

The police is investigating the case based on Ajit Kumar's statements.
