RJD Accuses NDA for Water-logging Problem in Patna
Patna: July 19, 2007
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders who failed to bring any development in their 15 years of rule in Bihar, on Saturday took out a rally against the NDA government saying Patna had turned into a complete hell in the current monsoon season and the government had failed in providing relief from water-logging in nearly all areas.
RJD activists burnt the effigy of Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey saying if things did not improve in next few days, the opposition would be forced to take its protest on the streets of Patna.
The rally that started at party headquarters reached at Dak Bungalow crossing where they demanded the resignation of Choubey and burnt his effigy.
Interestingly, when a reporter asked one of the protestors why the Lalu-Rabri regime also failed to fix the water-logging problem during their 15-year of rule in Bihar, the leader denied such hellish condition ever existed during the RJD regime.
Meanwhile, the former mayor and deputy mayor of Patna, at a meeting of ward councilors at a hotel near Patna Junction, lashed out at the new mayor saying he was also, like other officials in the NDA government, were affected by bureaucracy and red-tape.
Public support, however, remains solidly behind the Nitish government.
In an informal polling of over two dozen people outside Patna Junction on Saturday, all 100% blamed the RJD for Patna's poor drainage system.
"These (RJD) leaders remained too busy fostering corruption in the government for 15 years. They did not do anything to improve the living condition of those living in Patna but now they are blaming Nitish Kumar's less than 2 years old government for drainage problem in Patna," said Rameshwar Singh, a business owner on Station Road.
