Gaya Police Arrests Ranvir Sena Area Commander

Patna: July 24, 2007

The police in Gaya on Monday arrested alleged Ranvir Sena area commander Mahesh Sharma following a raid at his house in Turki village, Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Jain said.

Sharma, who had been wanted in the killing of 15 members of the backward community in a massacre that took place in 2000, was taken into police custody after the police, acting on a tip-off, raided his home on Monday night.

The police also recovered a rifle and a large cache of ammunition from the house.

Sharma had been wanted in several cases in Gaya, Jehanabad, and Aurangabad districts, the SP said.
