BSNL Service Remains Disrupted; Blames Fly

Patna: July 25, 2007

Incessant rain in Patna for last seven days has not only turned the entire city into a massive garbage dump but has also left hundreds of thousands of BSNL customers without phone lines forcing them to rely on mobile phones to conduct their day-to-day businesses.

With road construction work going on everywhere and rain water flooding holes in the roads, some as deep as 2-3 feet, the BSNL officials are blaming the construction company for severing underground phone cables leaving them without any reliable means of communication.

Blaming the water-logging problem in the state capital, Patna Telephone general manager V. K. Mahendra admitted it would take days to repair the damaged cable currently under water. "Until rain stops and water on Patna streets recedes, possibility of initiating repair operation was not likely in next few days," he said.
