Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC), in a virtual admission of its failure in providing reprieve from severe water-logging in Patna, has asked the army to help deal with the problem that has left Patna in a state of utter mess not fit for either human or animals.
On late Thursday, several army personnel surveyed the affected areas in Kankarbagh to device a foolproof plan to pump out accumulated water that has thrown normal life out of gear following non-stop rain for over a week now.
Kankarbagh municipal official R. K. Tiwari, admitting the district administration had failed to provide relief from water-logging to the Kankarbagh residents, said army personnel had been asked to lend their hands in clearing water from the affected areas, which unfortunately means entire Kankarbagh area.
Over 50 pumps are to be installed only in Kankarbagh while the army would provide over a dozen mobile pumps to help drain out water in areas close to the old bypass, officials said.
Meanwhile, there appeared to be no relief from incessant rain that is certain to stay here for next few days with worst yet to come, according to the weather experts.
With embankment and bridges over various rivers including Burhi Gandak, Bhutahi, Gandak, Punpun, Kamala Balan, and Saryu crumbling like sandcastles, panic has ensued in Madhubani, Siwan, Bagaha, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, and Sitamarhi districts where several villages have gone under water forcing people to run for higher elevations.
At least 7 deaths have been reported from across the state. In Madhuban block, three sisters aged between 8 and 13 were swept away in flood water on Thursday afternoon. Reports of flood-related deaths were also received from Raxaul, Bettiah, Siwan, and Muzaffarpur.
