Ultras Blow up Brick Kiln, Tractor in Hajipur

Patna: July 26, 2007

Over two dozen criminals with allegiance to banned Maoist outfit in Hajipur on Thursday night set a brick kiln and a tractor on fire after the owner of the kiln failed to cough up Rs. 25,000 in 'levy', or extortion money, the Hajipur police said.

According to the report, about 24-25 Maoists on late Thursday night surrounded the chimney owned by one Bhola Sah. After failing to find Sah, the criminals locked the clerk and other employees in a room before setting the chimney and the tractor parked outside on fire.

The ultras, before leaving, threatened to come back and kill the owner if the so-called levy was not paid soon.

District Magistrate Lallan Singh, confirming the incident, said Naxal literature and posters were recovered from the crime scene.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Attempts are being made to catch the criminals, the DM said.
