A Patna High Court division bench comprising Justice Narayan Roy and Justice K K Mandal, while hearing on a PIL on water-logging problem in Patna, directed the Urban Development Secretary, PHED Secretary, and Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) commissioner to appear before the court on August 13 and submit a report on measures being taken to remove water from the affected areas.
The court order comes after complaints of water-logging continued to pour in from many areas including Kankarbagh where relief is yet to arrive. With most neighborhoods still experiencing serious water-logging problem, residents' anger took a new turn on Friday when dozens of men led by Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Nitin Navin locked the PMC's Kankarbagh office after forcing officials out of it in a gesture of protest against the department's ineffectiveness in providing relief from water accumulation.
Navin warned the PMC officials to get to work or be prepared to face serious consequences. The lock was opened shortly though that did not deter the officials to lodge a complaint against the legislator with the PMC commissioner Rana Awadhesh.
Incidentally, as soon as the media arrived at the PMC's Kankarbagh office, its staff started to spray bleaching powder outside the building to show efforts were being made to keep mosquitoes from breeding.
