Patna: July 30, 2007

The government of Mauritius, on the 4th day of the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's 6-day trip to the island nation, announced its decision to set up a 'Mauritius House' in Patna to promote bilateral investment while also revealing its plan t set up a Mauritian Consulate in Patna to facilitate travel and tourism between Bihar and Mauritius.

The decisions were announced during a dinner meeting between the Mauritius Prime Minister Naveenchandra Ramgoolam and Nitish Kumar on Sunday.

Welcoming the decisions, Kumar said such moves would help restore cultural and economic ties between the two places and would have long term impact on those who feel separated by their ancestral root.

The Chief Minister also met with the Minister of Industries and Minister of Foreign Affairs and discussed possibility of investment in sugarcane industries in Bihar since both Mauritius and Bihar are blessed with massive sugarcane production.

Kumar said Bihar, under the NDA government, had taken many measures to restore infrastructure and provide a friendly environment to attract investment in the state. With minimum hassle and a direct window to negotiate with the government, the process of investment in Bihar would be made simpler and faster, the Chief Minister said.
