Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Ram Kripal Yadav on Monday, to protest against the 'failure of the Nitish government to provide relief from flood' in Bihar, went on a 24-hour hunger strike demanding the Chief Minister to cut short his trip to Mauritius and return to Bihar or resign.

"In Bihar, over 1 crore people are reeling from the effects of flood, our Chief Minister is enjoying a holiday in the paradise island of Mauritius. This indicates this government's mentality and insensitivity towards the need of the people," Yadav said.

"We are not going to sit on the fence and see Bihar devastated by flood while our Chief Minister, ignoring the plight of millions of Biharis, enjoys the luxury and amenities of the Mauritius," said the RJD leader.

Yadav also criticized the NDA government for failing to rid Patna from water-logging problem during the current monsoon season. However, when asked if these problems did not exist during the RJD's 15 years of rule, Yadav said he was not interested in the past and was only concerned with the present.

Meanwhile, in a press conference, RJD leaders including former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, Shyam Rajak and other party leaders, lashed out at Kumar for leaving Bihar when the state was reeling with the severe impact of flood.

The party would launch an all out protest in Patna on the day Chief Minister Nitish Kumar returns from his trip to Mauritius, Rajak said.
