Lalu Blasts Nitish Government on Flood Situation

Patna: July 31, 2007

Forgetting his own track record of systematic destruction of Bihar for over a decade and a half, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, on Tuesday, lashed out at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar saying while more than half of Bihar was reeling with the impact of flood, Kumar himself was trying to impress Mauritians by his 'horrendous' Bhojpuri.

Comparing Nitish to Nero, Yadav said that while Bihar was 'burning', Nitish was fiddling in Mauritius.

"As for Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, no one pays any attention to him. He lacks leadership ability and is incapable of running the show in the absence of the Chief Minister. Under these circumstances, Nitish Kumar should cut short his trip and rush back to Bihar where people are dying in the absence of any flood relief measures," the RJD chief and former CM of Bihar said.

In his tirade, Yadav did not spare the Mauritius government either.

"People of Mauritius are seeking help from Indian government to build bridges in their country. How can you expect them to invest in Bihar? We also have respect for Mauritians with root in Bihar but that does not mean a thing when it comes to investment in Bihar. This is nothing but a diversion tactic by the Nitish government that has failed on all fronts," the Railway Minister said.

Yadav also accused the state government of not seeking help from the Central government to combat flood in Bihar.

"Other states put pressure on the Central government for help in emergency situations like this but the NDA government in Bihar is treating us like enemies. There are two trained battalions ready to tackle flood in Bihar but there is no one here to ask for help while people are dying and crops are being destroyed in the absence of any effort by the state government," Yadav said.

Meanwhile, Yadav's wife and the leader of the opposition in the state Assembly Rabri Devi, on Tuesday, offered fruit juice to RJD MP Ramkripal Yadav to break his 24-hour fast that he went on to protest against the 'failure of the Nitish government'.
