Patna: June 2, 2007
The state has given a go-ahead signal to the Central government to build an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Bihar by allotting 500 acres of land as had been demanded by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced on Saturday.
"While it is becoming increasingly difficult to acquire lands in today's political climate, we are going to do so in the long-term interests of the state," Kumar said after hosting a meeting in honor of Bihar's students who have successfully cracked the latest IIT-JEE entrance tests.
The Chief Minister also announced Rs. 50,000 for the students to further pursue their studies at the IITs.
Kumar was meeting with students who had been coached by I-Desire coaching institute, a clone of Bihar's world famous Super-30, that ironically, announced shutting down its door minutes after the celebration at the Chief Minister's residence.
"Now that you have made your ways into the IITs, I wish you all success in future exams. Also, I want to remind you not to ever forget your roots. "Go on, make your names in the world, but never forget your state or your culture," Kumar advised the students while congratulating them for their success.
The Chief Minister also said that his government was working to promote technical education in the state so students did not have to go to other states to acquire higher education.
