Patna: June 11, 2007

Heavily armed criminals on the Forbesganj-Saharsa passenger train on late Sunday night robbed the travelers of their cash and other valuables to the tune of several lakh rupees and when a passenger tried to put up a resistance, he was shot to death in full view of other passengers, reports said.

As reported, nearly two dozen armed criminals entered into the train as soon as it left Forbesganj railway station. Pulling guns and knives, the robbers immediately ordered passengers to give up their belongings and valuables and anyone who showed even the slightest sign of opposition, was harshly beaten up.

Unfortunately for Laxmi Mandal of Supaul district, the criminals shot him from a close range after he refused to hand over his cash to them.

At Chakardaha Halt, the criminals got off the train and disappeared in the cover of darkness.

Senior police officials from Katihar visited the crime scene and recorded the statements of the aggrieved passengers.

Raids are being conducted in Katihar and Forbesganj to nab the criminals, the Railway police said.
