Leftist Parties Hold Rally to Protest Rising Prices, Crime
Patna: June 12, 2007
Four leftist outfits including the Communist Party of India (ML) and various trade union organizations, in a joint effort to express their dissatisfaction over a number of social issues facing Bihar, staged a rally in Patna on Tuesday calling the Nitish government 'anti people'.
Starting from Gandhi Maidan, the rally passed through Dak Bungalow crossing and arrived at the R-Block where it took the shape of a public meeting.
Accusing the NDA government in Bihar, the leaders said the government had failed to check rising prices and crime rate in the state and had virtually sold Bihar to private companies while ignoring the interests of poor and backward.
The leaders also demanded scrapping of the new Police Act and dissolution plan for the electricity board besides demanding a complete stop on the privatization of educational institutions in Bihar.
All this while, the people of Patna remained stuck in the traffic for hours – an ordeal they are quite used to thanks to thousands of such rallies by various outfits each year.
