Second Suspect in Ankit Abduction Case Surrenders
Patna: June 13, 2007
Sanjay Rajak, one of the key accused in the abduction of 6-year old Ankit who disappeared from outside his school in Patna City on April 12, after dodging the police dragnet for nearly two months, surrendered at a Patna City court on Tuesday.
Rajak was taken into police remand for seven days during which he will be quizzed on the disappearance of Ankit and his alleged role in it.
He, along with his Balram Paswan, the former family servant, is charged with abducting Ankit who is yet to be found.
Paswan was earlier arrested from Siwan on May 9.
The Ankit abduction drama has taken several shocking turns since the arrest of Paswan who initially admitted of killing Ankit and burying him at the bank of Saryu River in Saran district with the help of Rajak.
A massive digging operation of the river area later failed to recover any human remains.
The police is hoping to get some clue as to the whereabouts of Ankit by comparing the notes of Rajak and Paswan.
Earlier on May 17, the police after obtaining a court order to attach Rajak's properties in Patna, raided his house and seized his belongings while arresting his wife and another family member on charges of trying to shelter a wanted criminal.
