Mangal Talaab, Moinul Haque Stadium to Get Makeovers

Patna: June 15, 2007

Mangal Talaab. Photo by Shashi UttamAfter being ignored by the local governments for last several decades, the Nitish government has released Rs. 3.5 crore for the development and beautification of the historical Mangal Talaab in Patna City to attract tourists and environment lovers in the area, officials in Patna said on Friday.

The sum has already been given to the District Magistrate which will soon invite a bid on the construction project after which work to clean and beautify the area would begin on a war-footing scale, Road Construction and Tourism Minister Nand Kishore Yadav said.

The plan includes a walking trail around the pond, an open-air stage for cultural shows and improvement in the drainage system to keep the water clean.

Meanwhile, the government has also announced its decision to give a facelift to Patna's Moinul Haque stadium that has remained neglected for years giving it an appearance of a military barrack instead of a place for young boys and girls engaging in various sporting activities.
