Gangster Killed in War of Attrition in Danapur

Patna: June 16, 2007

Notorious Danapur criminal Abhay Sharma, in a gang war on Saturday night, was shot dead when criminals from an opposing gang showered bullets on him near Tribhuwan Park killing him instantly, the police said.

Sharma, who had been wanted in a number of cases including the murder of one Gopal Sao, was ambushed by rival gang-members who opened indiscriminate firing at him before disappearing in the cover of darkness.

Para-medical attendants transported Sharma to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) but he was declared dead on arrival.

The police has recovered some empty cartridge shells, a shirt, and a sandal from the crime scene, Danapur DSP Pramod Kumar Mandal said adding Sharma was a member of the notorious Raju Rai gang.

The crime took place near the house of another criminal Mukesh Sharma. The police are searching the area looking for Mukesh Sharma who is said to be missing since Saturday night.
