Mayor Promises to Beautify Patna

Patna: June 17, 2007

State Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav, during a function to honor the newly-elected mayor and deputy mayor of Patna on Sunday at the Arora House, said that the mayor and his deputy had been given a chance to develop and beautify Patna and they should work very hard to regain the trust of the people.

"This is a great opportunity for both of you to earn the trust and respect of the people of Patna and the government is more than willing to cooperate with you in any way possible to develop the city and make it more attractive for the residents as well as the visitors," Yadav, the chief guest, said.

Sanjay Kumar, the new mayor of Patna, promised to deliver what he had promised during the election campaign.

"I will work towards improving the look of Patna and concentrate on many of the civic problems it currently faces," the mayor said in his speech.

Deputy Mayor Santosh Mehta, who occupied the same position in the previous regime as well, said he would be more effective this term than before because the Nitish-led government was playing a more pragmatic role in the development of Patna than the previous Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) government.
