Patna: June 19, 2007
Bihar Chief Secretary Afzal Amanullah, after attending a meeting with the Union Home Ministry officials in New Delhi on Tuesday, said the central government had agreed in principle to provide Rs. 53.5 crore to Bihar to modernize and improve the state police that has failed to keep up with the time in the lack of modern equipment and crime-fighting techniques.
After meeting with the Bihar police delegate that included Amanullah, Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Ashish Ranjan Sinha, and other senior officials, the Central government agreed to provide Rs. 53.5 crore for bringing the Bihar police up to date with a state-of-the-art police headquarters, modern crime-fighting devices, a top-notch forensic lab, better communication facilities, and training programs for the Special Task Force.
"The Home Ministry, after a careful perusal of the modernization plan submitted by the Bihar police, has asked the state officials to make a few modifications in the plan and resubmit it," Amanullah said adding he was confident of getting the funding for revamping of the state police in the current fiscal year.
