Crime on Trains an Attempt to Tarnish Railway Minister: Rabri
Patna: June 20, 2007
Former Bihar Chief Minister and leader of the Opposition in Bihar Assembly Mrs. Rabri Devi on Wednesday in Patna criticized the Nitish government saying surge in robberies and murders on Bihar trains were part of a well-hatched conspiracy to malign her husband and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav to score cheap political points.
"The government that claims of good governance in Bihar is deliberately not providing any protection to the railway passengers so the Railway Minister gets the blame," Rabri Devi said referring to the recent armed robbery in Upasana Express and the attack on Bagh Express near Sonepur in which one railway security jawan lost his life.
"The state government controls the railway protection force in the state and therefore, it is the responsibility of the state to protect the passengers on trains passing through Bihar. The NDA in Bihar is going crazy over the worldwide popularity of the Railway Minister and that is why it is doing things that would hurt the image of my husband," she said.
The former Chief Minister also lashed out at the Nitish government for failing to control crime in the state.
"They are giving false data to establish crime rate has gone down in Bihar but if you look any media report, you will know the truth is far from it," Rabri Devi said.
