High-tech Mobile Road Testing Van Unveiled
Patna: June 21, 2007
Road Construction Minister Nandkishore Yadav, on Thursday, flagged off the state's very first 'Mobile Road Testing Van' that, as the name implies, would conduct on-the-spot tests to determine the qualitative aspects of any newly-constructed roads and bridges while pointing any deficiency in them.
The mobile lab equipped with high-tech scientific tools has been acquired from an American company. Its highly-trained engineers will collect hundreds of thousands of samples from various roads and highways in Bihar in next two years and will submit its reports in a matter of hours pointing any shortcomings in the material or technique used in building the roads, officials said.
Engineers or contractors, if found to be cutting corners in the quality of roads and bridges, would be dealt with an iron hand, Yadav said.
The state government has contracted the equipment and technical know-how for next two years because Bihar intends to build more than 6,000 kilometers of road within that period, Yadav said adding the mobile testing van would conduct tests on the quality of soil, stone chips, and tar to ensure the roads meet the standards as set by the experts.
SSV International, USA, would receive Rs. 3.59 crore for its entire two-year run in Bihar, the minister said.
Project Director Pushkar Mullick and Material Engineer Kumar Rajesh were also present at the van's flag-off ceremony.
The van would directly in contact with its central office that has been set up in Pataliputra Colony, Mullick said.
