Patna: June 25, 2007

Suspected Maoists extremists in Motihari district on Monday morning blew up Mehsi railway station's control room causing serious injuries to at least two railway staff while also destroying railway properties and equipment, officials in Patna said.

As reported, Maoist guerillas hid a powerful explosive in a bicycle parked near the station's control room. At around 6:30 am, using a remote detonating device, the ultras blasted the bomb that caused a large explosion damaging the control room while injuring two railway employees inside it.

The injured persons were taken to a hospital in Motihari where doctors were trying to pull out shrapnel that penetrated their bodies, officials said.

The explosion caused interruption in the normal railway traffic as senior railway officials and railway police jawans rushed to the site to survey the situation.

So far no arrest has been made in the case.
