Four Arrested Following Raid at Registration Office
Patna: June 25, 2007
Bihar Vigilance officials in Patna on Monday carried out a massive raid at the Patna Registration Office and arrested four property and flat deed writers on charges of indulging in corrupt practices including accepting bribes to the tune of several lakh rupees.
Officials also filed FIRs against a dozen identified and unidentified persons for being part of the corruption ring that raked in hundreds of thousands of rupees from helpless victims.
As reported by the Vigilance Additional Director General Neelmani, after months of investigation, a Vigilance team raided the registry office and recovered over Rs. 28,000 received in bribe money.
The police arrested Akhilesh Kumar, Radheshyam Singh, Abhay Kumar, and Shesh Kumar causing a panic in the office. Several clerks chose to slip out of their offices to avoid arrest, the police said.
The raid lasted over three hours during which the vigilance sleuths discovered a pattern of corruption and several irregularities, including in the computer department that could land many other officials in huge trouble.
The Vigilance has created a special mobile party to report any corruption in the Registry office. Consumers are encouraged to come forward without any fear and report any irregularity in the department, Neelmani said.
