Train Services Disrupted due to Maoist Call for 'Chakka Jam'
Patna: June 26, 2007
The state government on Tuesday issued red alert to all railway stations in Bihar after left extremists in Bihar and Jharkhand went on a two-day statewide drive to disrupt train movements in a display of protest against the government's Special Economic Zones (SEZ) policy.
Following three explosions on railway tracks in Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh, the officials of the East-Central Railways cancelled a number of trains traveling to Dhanbad, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and other parts of Jharkhand and other trains leaving for Madhya Pradesh and Andhra, authorities in Patna said.
Security has been heightened along the railway tracks and bus stations in areas prone to Naxal violence while security has been beefed up on all trains that continue to ply despite the threat of violence.
Maoists have been opposed to the government's SEZ policy professing it was anti-poor and favored large business houses despite the government's vigorous attempt to dispel the myth.
