Governor Pays Rich Tribute to Swami Sahajanand
Patna: June 26, 2007
Bihar Governor R. S. Gavai, while releasing a book on the life of Swami Sahajanand Saraswati on his 57th death anniversary in Patna on Tuesday, said Bihar was capable of feeding the entire nation if only agriculture was developed in a systematic, scientific manner.
"Without development in the field of agriculture and a sound agricultural policy, Bihar could not think of moving on the path of progress. The state has no dearth of fertile land and if right policies are put in place and incentives offered to the farmers, the state could not only become self-sufficient in food, it could very well provide food-grains to the whole of India," the Governor said.
He also expressed concerns over decline in agricultural field in last few years.
"This trend is dangerous and the government must take this seriously. While the nation continues to march on the path of development at a fast pace, the plight of farmers remains unchanged and this must be taken into account for a more balanced progress," the Governor said.
Speaking highly of Swami Sahjanand, the Governor said the undisputed champion of the farmers was not only popular in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh but also in Maharashtra and other parts of the nation.
"Because of his incessant struggle for the rights and welfare of the farmers, Swami Sahajanand was a true leader of the mass," he said.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Bihar Legislative Council chairperson Arun Kumar, Sports and Culture Minister Janardan Singh Sigriwal, former Central Minister Baleshwar Ram, and event organizer Dr. Mahachandra Singh.
