PMC, Water Board Employees Threaten to go on Strike

Photo by Shashi UttamPatna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Water Board employees, in a joint protest on Wednesday, expressed their anger before the Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey and threatened to go on an extended strike if their demands were not met immediately.

The threat came after the talks between the agitating PMC and Water Board employees and the Mayor's office failed despite the Mayor's repeated assurance to give due considerations to their demands.

Besides the representatives of the unions, those present at the meeting included mayor Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Mayor Santosh Mehta, City Commissioner Rana Awadesh Singh and other civic officials.

PMC staff rally in Patna. Photo by Shashi UttamProtestors also took out a rally from the PMC office to the R-Block crossing where they said their movement will be intensified until their demands were met in its entirety.

Union president Chandra Prakash Singh said the next step in their agitation was to protest before the Chief Minister and the Governor and if still their demands were not met, they would be forced to go on an indefinite strike.

The protestors are demanding an end to double shift, introduction of 6% dearness allowance since January 2007, and payment of their February and March salaries, among others.
