Former Congress Minister Killed in Road Accident

Congress leader and former Bihar minister Girish Narayan Mishra who served under the Bindeshwari Dubey government in the '80s, died in a two vehicle accident when the car he was traveling in collided with a tractor-trailer near Mohania on the Grand Trunk Road in Kaimur district.
Mishra, who was on his way from Sasaram to Varanasi to attend a wedding when the tragedy happened, died on the spot.
He was 88.
Another occupant of the ill-fated vehicle, Dr. Devendra Tripathi who was also the president of the Indian Medical Association, Rohtas district, also died in the accident, the police said.
Both were rushed to a hospital in Varanasi but were announced dead on arrival.
Reacting at Mishra's death, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who is currently under the weather himself expressed his grief and described the Congress leader as very popular 'who dedicated his life for the emancipation of poor and impoverished'.
Other leaders cutting across the party line also expressed their condolences to Mishra's family.
At Congress headquarters in Sadaqat Ashram, party state president Sadanand Singh, Vijay Shankar Dubey, Kripanath Pathak held a meeting to mourn the death of Mishra. The party flag was also ordered to fly half-mast in honor of the departed soul.
Meanwhile, in yet another tragedy on Bihar road, ten persons died and over two dozen injured when an overloaded tempo was hit by a speeding bus in Nalanda district on late Wednesday night near Harnaut.
Injured persons were taken to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) where many remain in very critical condition.
