Leaders Band Together to Protest Against NDA Government
Patna: June 28, 2007
Left parties in Bihar on Thursday launched an agitation against the NDA government in the state calling Chief Minister Nitish Kumar a 'huge failure' in bringing any change in Bihar particularly in the area of law and order saying crime rate was at an unprecedented height with criminals virtually taking over the state.
Presiding over the anti-NDA rally, Communist Party of India state secretary Badrinarayan Lal said the Nitish government had failed to keep up its promised made during the election campaign.
"Crime rate has gone up manifold, murders and abductions are taking place on a daily basis, corruption among the government officials has become the order of the day, and the government is giving incentive to encourage alcoholism in Bihar. Poor are being victimized and tax breaks are being given to private companies while all social schemes are have been put on the back burner," the CPI leader said.
The protestors also accused the government of displacing poor people in the name of development and failing to take actions against leaders in the ruling parties who have been accused of committing crimes.
"Bureaucracy is at its worse while police are arresting leaders from the opposition parties at the slightest provocation," Lal said adding this was just the beginning of their movement. "Soon it would be taken up in other districts to send our messages across," he said.
Prominent among those who participated in Thursday rally were Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders Ramkripal Yadav, Shyam Rajak, Ramchandra Purbey, Ghulam Gaus, Premchandra Mishra, and Nihora Prasad Yadav.
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and CPI-ML did not take part in the protest.
Others to speak on the occasion included BIPARD president G. C. Dutta, Mira Dutta, Indrajeet Mittal, and Amitabh Prasad.
