Tree Fall in PMCH Campus Kills Patient's Father

Patna: June 30, 2007

In a freak but tragic accident, a man sleeping under a Gulmohar tree inside the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) campus on late Friday night died when a sudden storm uprooted the tree crushing him beneath it while injuring three others, the Bankipore police said on Saturday morning.

As reported, Arvind Kumar, a resident of Ekangarsarai, was staying under the Gulmohar tree inside the PMCH campus for last three weeks to take care of her 8-months old pregnant daughter admitted in the Gynecology ward of the hospital.

At around 1:30 am, a sudden gust knocked down the old tree to the ground crushing Kumar under it while also knocking out power cables causing a blackout in the hospital.

Three persons also sleeping under the tree escaped with minor injuries, the police said.

The power outage disrupted many hospital activities including causing shortage of drinking water.

It was not until 4:00 pm on Saturday when power and water services were restored, officials said.
