Five Men in Custody in Cop's Murder Case

The police in Nalanda district took five people in custody on suspicion of gunning down inspector Shashi Shekhar who was killed on late Monday night after being ambushed by a gang of criminals near Biharsharif as he returned to his home in Asthawan village, officials in Nalanda said.
While the identities of the detained persons have not been revealed by the police, all five men are being grilled by the authorities in an attempt to identify the killers.
Shekhar, who was off duty, was returning to his home in his Maruti car when he was shot dead by the criminals.
Robbery is believed to be the motive behind the killing, the police said.
Shekhar is survived by his wife and two young children.
Home Commissioner Afzal Amanullah confirmed taking five men in custody. "We have some credible leads in the case and we are hoping to get a breakthrough soon," he said.
On Tuesday, the body of Shekhar was brought to Patna where he was given full state honor before being cremated by his family members.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while ordering a high-level enquiry into the case, announced Rs. 10 lakh for the family of the slain inspector and continuance of his salary and pension to his wife.
