Modi Dares Opposition for a Debate on Development Issues
Patna: Mar. 6, 2007
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, in the state Assembly on Tuesday, challenged the opposition to a debate on developmental works done in the 15 years of Lalu-Rabri regime and the progress made by the current NDA government in its 15 months of rule since wrestling power from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in November 2005.
"The opposition continues to make false allegations against the NDA government in Bihar despite clear indications of works going on all fronts. I, therefore, challenge them to indulge with us on a debate on development works that were done during the Lalu-Rabri rule lasting 15 years and what we have been able to achieve in a short period of 15 months," Modi said.
Modi said while the government's goal was to lower poverty and unemployment in the state, in 2008, priority would be given on road construction without which economic development was merely a pipe dream.
He also said that the NDA government, unlike the RJD regime, would utilize every single penny received in Central funding and the state would be able to double its dairy production in next five years.
"While opening new industries in the state is of utmost importance in the development of any state, we will not do it at the cost of Bihar's farmers," the Deputy Chief Minister said adding besides opening 19 new sugar mills in the state, all 15 sick sugar mills would also be revived.
