University Service Commission Dissolved

Patna: Mar. 6, 2007

A day after dissolving the Bihar State Interstate University Board, the state government on Tuesday also disbanded the Bihar State University Service Commission at the recommendation of state Administrative Reform Commission in an attempt to restructure and reorganize various government departments.

"The government feels an outfit like Bihar State University Service Commission, instead of being providing any real help to the state universities, affects the autonomy of such institutions in a negative way," officials in the Education Department said.

Under the new plan, universities in Bihar will be able to enjoy the same benefit and autonomy as currently enjoyed by only central universities, they said.

As reported before, the state government, on Monday, dissolved the Bihar Inter-University Board at the recommendation of the State Administrative Reform Commission to accord total autonomy to the universities in Bihar.

Employees of the Bihar State University Service Commission and the Bihar Inter-University Board would continue to receive their salaries and other benefits until the dissolution comes into effect. They would later be accommodated as per the provisions made in the Bihar State Agricultural Marketing Board (Dissolution) Bill, 2006.
