Papiya Ghosh Murder Accused to be Charged on Thursday

Patna: Mar. 7, 2007

The Patna police is gearing up to charge five accused in the killing of renowned Patna University professor Dr. Papiya Ghosh who, along with her live-in maid, was brutally stabbed to death by criminals who broke into her house in Pataliputra Colony on December 2, 2006.

Formal charges will be filed against the five accused in the Fast Track Court 5 on Thursday, officials in Patna said on Wednesday.

Though the police was able to crack the case within two weeks of the crime committed and was able to arrest five men and recover most of the stolen items from an abandoned area in Digha, two of the prime accused in the case, Mushtaqim and Sanjog Rai, continue to elude the police.

With the formation of charges against Ashish Rai, Shankar Sao, Manohar Kumar, Anil Oraon, the trial is expected to move faster than it had been for last couple of months, officials said.

A lawyer who is accused of receiving stolen items from Professor Ghosh is also in police custody and will be indicted on Thursday, the police said.

Meanwhile, the police continue to search for Mushtaqim and Sanjog Rai who seem to have disappeared after committing the crime.
