Thousands of angry men on Thursday went on a rampage destroying shops and looting commercial vehicles while blocking the road for over two hours in protest against the abduction of 18-year old Yashraj, the son of the owner of Prabhat Market in Shastri Nagar in Patna, who went out on Wednesday night but never returned.
Demanding the recovery of the youth, the protestors burnt passing-by vehicles, looted shops, and destroyed a three-wheeler carrying dozens of crates of bottled water before turning it upside down and stealing all the bottles.
As reported, Yashraj, the son of businessman Prabhat Kumar, left his home on Wednesday evening to see his teacher in connection with his studies. When he failed to return home till late night, family members filed a report of possible kidnapping with the Shastri Nagar police station.
The riot that continued for over two hours was brought under control only after the authorities assured the protestors of recovering Yashraj in next 24 hours, a promise that would be extremely hard to keep particularly in light of the absence of any credible witness or any ransom call in the case.
Meanwhile, the parents of Yashraj are worried sick to death. "We wish we had received a ransom call from the kidnappers of my son. At least we would have known then that our son was safe," said a distraught Manju Devi, the mother of the missing youth.
Yashraj is a student of Holy Mission School.
