Patna is fast emerging as the city best known for its rallies, protests, and other disruptive activities that has literally brought the state capital to its knees. Meanwhile, the Nitish government remains clueless as to how to restore some sanity in the everyday life of those who couldn't care less about their demands.
Thursday was no different from any other day. Every single 'association' ever known to the mankind seems to have gathered in Patna blocking all major roads bringing the traffic to a complete standstill for hours.
The usual favorite intersections like Dak Bungalow crossing, R-Block, Bailey Road, Hartali Chowk, Shastri Nagar, Income Tax roundabout, Patna Junction roundabout, Kargil Chowk, J. P. roundabout, Buddha Marg, Exhibition Road saw the worst of Patna traffic as thousands of women, to mark the International Women's Day on Thursday, held a number of protests and rallies to assert for their rights.
Meanwhile, a number of 'non-disruptive' functions were held in the city to celebrate the International Women's Day.
At Patna Women's College, the Political Science department organized a poster competition with the theme being women's empowerment.
Students of Patna Women's Training College also celebrated the day with seminars and talks.
Governor R. S. Gavai, while taking part in a similar event organized at the Patna Youth Hostel, praised notable women in history and favored 50% reservation for women instead of the current 33%.
Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey said women did not need sympathy, they needed equal say in the society that they rightly deserved.
