Refusal to Allow Appeal in Lalu Case Illegal; Says BJP Leader
Patna: Mar. 10, 2007
Senior Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, following his return from Uttarkhand where he had been camping to oversee state elections, said in Patna on Saturday that the UPA government's refusal to allow the CBI to appeal a lower court verdict in the Disproportionate Asset (DA) case against the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav was illegal and was motivated by political compulsions.
Talking to the reporters, the party national spokespersons said he was also 'familiar with the Indian Constitution and Indian laws' and he could say it with full certainty that what the Law Ministry had done in the Lalu-Rabri Disproportionate Asset (DA) asset case was against any established rules or law.
"It is obvious the UPA government is using the CBI for its own political advantage but what they are doing is completely wrong and illegal," Prasad said.
Reacting at the recent anti-Bihari statements made by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray, the former Union Minister said Thackeray was a frustrated politician who was desperate to earn a notoriety for himself by any means.
