People of Patna, incensed by the latest anti-Biharis remarks made by the extremist Marathi leader Raj Thackeray, on Saturday held a rally featuring a donkey, a symbolic likeness of the man who wants to be the leader of the Maharashtrians, and demanded Thackeray be tried for anti-national activities.
Thousands of angry Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) activists burnt the effigy of Raj Thackeray, the leader of the obscure Maharashtra Navnirman Sena that is struggling to exert his influence in the state's politics though without much effect. "The Thackerays are a threat to the nation's unity and should be tried for anti-national activities and thrown in jail for the rest of their lives," angry protestors said.
As reported before, on Thursday, Raj Thackeray, once a protégé of Bal Thackeray, at the first anniversary of the formation of his gang known as Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, blurted anti-Bihari statements saying if they wanted to stay in Maharashtra, they would have to play by his rules or they will be served 'slapping for breakfast, lunch, and supper".
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav promptly shot back at Thackeray saying his statements were dangerous for the unity of the nation and he owed an apology to the entire country, particularly to the people of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
